Towards the end of the work day I thought to myself, “boy would I love to have an ice cold beer”. Random. I know. I hardly ever drink beer and according to my boyfriend I don’t like beer. But occasionally a cold brew sounds soooo refreshing. Fast forward… my coworker Roger, who owns New Vaudeville beer company walks pass my desk. I proceed to say “Roger, I sure wish that I had a beer!” in a jokingly manner. He says ” you want one? I have one… and If you want it we can split it!” Hell yeah! Score! That was easy.
Roger proceeds to tell me ” Don’t wish for things that are easy to get”. At that very moment his words hit me nice and hard and they’ve stuck with me since that day. He poured me an ice cold beer and also inspired me.
After that encounter I asked myself…what in the hell was holding me back from getting a beer? Why did I just sit on my ass and “wish” for a beer? There were four things that held me back from fulfilling my own wish.
1. Apparently I didn’t want a beer bad enough
2. I had also created a false limitation in my mind
3. I didn’t believe that there were any beers available to me and…
4. I also didn’t take any action to find a beer
Those added up pretty quickly. Had I thought differently and realized how easy it would be for me to get a beer, I totally could’ve poured my own glass of beer. I hate to admit, but with that mindset I had already defeated myself.
This is a basic example, but it can be applied to so many situations in life. I see it every day. And as you can see, I even demonstrate this weak mindset from time to time. However, on my continuous journey to manifest greatness I will be intentional in applying the “stop wishing start doing” mantra to my daily life.
Stop wishing for things that are easy to get! Wishing is for the weak.
There are 6 major factors that usually hold people back from getting what they wish for:
Little to no action/ Lack of effort
Lack of belief
You first have to believe that you are capable of achieving a goal and fulfilling your wishes and desires. You then have to take action. Stop thinking about all of the shit that just “might” hold you back because once you start creating these false limitations, you have already defeated yourself. Seriously, at the end of the day, what is the worse thing that could happen? Failure. So what. At least you tried.
You will realize that once you stop wishing and start doing, things will fall into place.
It may not happen as quick as you’d like for it to but eventually it will happen.
My dad always use to tell me to “wish in one hand, shit in the other and see which one fills up the fastest.” Think about those things that you wish for regularly but still haven’t achieved. Write a list and start working towards them.
